Phoenix Design Week, an annual creative conference held by AIGA Arizona in downtown Phoenix, AZ, presented an exciting opportunity for us to develop the branding for its 15th-anniversary celebration. Our theme, "UNITE", emphasized the vibrant and diverse design community across Arizona's 15 counties and beyond. Using a mosaic motif, we aimed to capture the collective spirit of unity, diversity, and collaboration within the Phoenix creative community, as well as reflect the state's rich culture. The versatile mosaic elements served various purposes, including illustrations, icons, and backgrounds, allowing us to convey the essence of the design community's shared passion and creativity. This project was a true labor of love, driven by collaboration and a shared vision for celebrating the power of design to unite and inspire our community.
The conference kicked off with a dynamically animated intro video that put the brand identity and mosaic elements on full display. The video introduced the lineup of diverse keynote speakers and breakout session hosts, all set to custom southwestern-themed music and sounds that were crafted specifically for the event.

Phoenix Design Week has brought together creatives from Arizona’s 15 counties for 15 years. PHXDW 2023 not only celebrates the state’s rich culture but also the collective power of design to create something greater together.



The brand colors draw inspiration from the rich culture of the Southwest and the vibrant hues of Arizona’s iconic sunsets. This palette blends warm and cool tones, capturing a range of colors that reflect the region’s diversity, while reinforcing the brand’s commitment to inclusivity and array of creative backgrounds represented in the event’s attendees



Motley Slab, the custom font we created for Phoenix Design Week, was designed for both the logotype and display usage. Inspired by the southwest, this slab serif font embodies the region's unique character while maintaining a clean, minimalistic style. The name "Motley" holds particular significance, aligning with the UNITE theme of the event, symbolizing the diverse collective of designers coming together. This font seamlessly integrates with the mosaic elements and illustrations, enhancing the cohesive visual identity of the event.
Additionally, the timelapse video offers a captivating glimpse into the lobby leading into the event venue, where animated screen displays feature the event branding. Viewers can also catch a glimpse of one of the larger-than-life mosaic creature cutouts, further highlighting the immersive and dynamic atmosphere of Phoenix Design Week.






































We crafted custom micro animations for Phoenix Design Week that brought the event’s mosaic elements, creatures, and logos to life. These animations were designed as Instagram Story stickers, allowing attendees to enhance their posts with playful, branded visuals that captured the essence of the event.
